All the Right Moves
If you happened to be anywhere on the third floor of SolBridge on Tuesdays this semester, those sounds you heard coming from the gymnasium where the sounds of a Taekwondo class conducted by our very own Taekwondo specialist and master, Dr. Chong-woong Kim.
Dr. Kim has spent nearly his entire live involved with this popular and invigorating martial art. He has practiced and taught for nearly 60 years ever since he was 13 years old. Currently, he holds a 9th Degree Black Belt which is the highest rank. He is still running a Taekwondo school in Huntington, West Virginia, and is currently serving as the Vice President for the United States Taekwondo Grandmaster Society. Before he became the Dean of College of Business at Marshall University (before he came to SolBridge), he taught Taekwondo as a Physical Education class over 15 years.
As for the Taekwondo class offered at SolBridge, it is 2 credit hour class from 9 - 11 on Tuesdays. He teaches fundamental basic Taekwondo techniques. Although there are a few experienced students in Taekwondo in the class including four black belts, they are benefitting from Dr. Kim’s methods and his mastery of this martial art.
