SolBridge International School of Business recently had the distinct honor of hosting Dr. Salvador Carmona, the esteemed Rector of IE University. A globally recognized scholar and leader in higher education, Dr. Salvador Carmona has been instrumental in shaping modern business education. With a distinguished academic career deeply rooted in accounting and management control, his leadership at IE University, one of Europe’s top-tier institutions, has consistently championed innovation, academic rigor, and the integration of new technologies into business strategy.

During his visit to SolBridge, Dr. Salvador Carmona engaged with both our student body and our faculty, delivering two highly impactful sessions that bridged foundational business mechanics with cutting-edge academic technology.

Dr. Salvador Carmona provided our students with an exceptional masterclass titled “Different cost systems for different purposes: why businesses need multiple cost systems.” Moving beyond traditional accounting principles, he demonstrated how strategic costing acts as a primary driver of organizational success, and he emphasized that in today’s complex and volatile global markets, a single financial lens is insufficient. Dr. Salvador Carmona guided students through the intricacies of aligning cost systems directly with broader business strategies, exploring diverse costing approaches that allow managers to make agile, informed decisions.

Following his session with the students, Dr. Salvador Carmona led a specialized seminar for SolBridge faculty focused on “Teaching & Research in the Age of AI”. Dr. Salvador Carmona highlighted that AI brings about a transformation of the curricula, professional roles, and pedagogy. He reminded the faculty that while AI is a helpful assistant, the researcher remains the author and must ultimately take full responsibility for the content.
