First Semester Survival Guide: Navigating Life at SolBridge
As a new semester begins, many students embark on their academic journeys
at SolBridge. Some are experiencing university life for the first time, while
others are adapting to studying in a new country as exchange students. While
these transitions can be exciting, they also come with challenges. To ensure a
smooth adjustment, here are some essential tips to help you settle into life at
SolBridge.
Campus Life
·
Regularly
Check Your SolBridge Email. Your
university email serves as the primary communication channel between students,
faculty, and administration. Staying updated with important announcements, deadlines,
and event notifications is crucial for a well-informed university experience.
·
Engage with
Student Clubs. At the beginning of each
semester, SolBridge hosts a Club Expo, allowing students to
explore various organizations and extracurricular activities. Joining a club is
an excellent way to build connections, enhance leadership skills, and enrich
your university experience.
·
Utilize
Study Spaces. The Student Lounge on the
second floor offers study spaces on a first-come, first-served basis. Arriving early
ensures you secure a suitable environment for focused study sessions.
·
Evade
Elevator Congestion. To avoid delays, it is
advisable to leave at least 15 minutes early for class. Elevators
tend to be highly congested approximately 10 to 5 minutes before class,
which may cause unnecessary delays. In the event of being unable to avoid the
congestion, the stairs are always your next option.
·
Expand Your
Network. SolBridge provides numerous
opportunities to connect with fellow students, professors, and industry
professionals through clubs, academic projects, and networking events.
Additionally, students are encouraged to explore MySolBridge,
a platform designed to facilitate professional connections within the
university community. Whether you are a freshman, returning SolBridger,
transfer or exchange student, a good avenue of networking with your professors
is the Open House Week that is hosted at the start of the semester.
Academics
·
Adhere to
the Attendance Policy. SolBridge has a strict
attendance policy, and failure to meet the required attendance percentage may
impact academic performance. Students must mark their attendance using the
designated application to ensure compliance.
·
Understand
Course Participation Requirements. While
active engagement in class discussions is encouraged, the weight of
participation in grading varies across courses. Reviewing the course syllabus
at the beginning of the semester will clarify its significance in each class.
·
Access the
Bloomberg Terminal. Students with an interest
in finance are encouraged to utilize the Bloomberg Terminal in the library.
Reservations are available, and access to this resource can be particularly
beneficial for finance-related coursework.
·
Seek
Academic Support. The SolBridge Tutoring
Lab provides academic assistance in subjects such as
mathematics, IT, writing, BBA courses and language studies (English and
Korean). Students experiencing difficulties with essays or presentations may
schedule a session through MySolBridge or visit the office opposite
the Pine
Hall Auditoriums (2nd floor) for further guidance.
